Environmental Education Campaign with the slogan "Better to prevent than to Cure" during the rest of 2017 and the International Year of The Reef (IYOR) 2018
Objective: Improving Coral Reefs Protection for Effective Conservation: Local threats should be avoid while national and global efforts are improved to reduce pollution (Pollutants and CO2 emission, dredging, sedimentation / turbidity, overfishing and direct or indirect destruction).
Background: Colombia provides a case study to learn how non-protected areas may have better performance of conservation indicators than the ones that are from "protected" areas. #SDG may become relevant when decision support systems can guide policies of conservation. We are committed involving the civil society to request coral reef conservation and provide citizen science reporting their observations systematically.
Activities:
- Involve stakeholders (Artisanal Fishermen, Scuba Diving Operators, Tourism operators
- Make / Receive Photos and videos form coral reef areas
- Address the general public with photos and videos providing them with virtual reality experiences of the ecological, social and economic values of effective coral reef conservation
