One Ocean initiative is a Corporate Social Responsibility program of Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS)s on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, building on the Clubs network and its international standing. YCCS is an independent and non political organization with the patronage and support of HH Princess Zahra Aga Khan. It aims at being a driving force for local and international initiatives engaging stakeholders from different backgrounds.
One Ocean's objective is to conduct an environmental audit and identify virtuous practices to minimize YCCSs' environmental impact. The first action of the One Ocean initiative will the organisation of the One Ocean Forum taking place in Milan (Italy) on 3-4 October 2017, with the aim of creating conversation amongst different actors, e.g. industry, media, research, NGOs, students, to increase the awareness, develop networks and partnerships among them, and identity solutions to common issues regarding the ocean, and its sustainable management.
One concrete outcome of the Forum will be the Charta Smeralda, a digital and open source document, committing those who sign it to identify actions to minimise impacts, and propose solutions.
The One Ocean aims to be a long term initiative with regular gatherings. The Forum will be implemented with attention to innovative ways of communication, involving influencers from different backgrounds, e.g. art, science, media, sport, industry, and philanthropy, in order to reach a wider audience, in a more direct and impactful way. The governance of the initiative is made up of three entities, the founding committee, the scientific committee, and the advisory board. The Charta Smeralda will be regularly monitored and updated, with the supervision of the governance entities.

October 2017
Charta Smeralda. It will be a document shared, discussed and then disseminated, starting with Yacht Clubs all over the world, and then spread amongst those who live the sea for leisure, to the infrastructures which promote and support its activities (yacht clubs, tourist ports, marinas). The document will be action oriented, and will identify concrete actions aiming at reducing the environmental impacts of yacht clubs, touristic ports, and marinas. The Charta will also propose actions to increase the awareness of citizens, especially the youth, on emerging ocean issues. Furthermore, it will identify concrete actions that every citizen can implement on an every day basis to undertake a more sustainable life style.

One Ocean Forum. Global Forum to be held in Milan on 3 and 4 October 2017 where experts, institutions, companies and private citizens will gather to discuss and promote practical actions to tackle the challenging issues regarding the marine environment.
