Upscaling and Replicating the Initiative FROM RIDGE TO REEF. The integrated conservation program between forest ecosystems, rivers with coastal ecosystems, marine and mangrove in Belitung island (local level) into Indonesian (national level)
by Kelompok Peduli Lingkungan Belitung (Belitung Coastal Community Group), Member of Telapak Indonesia (Non-governmental organization (NGO))
The condition and quality of the environment is nowadays worrying and action is needed. Innovative approaches, strong commitment and the great spirit are needed to alleviate the situation. This is what we have outlined in our big program called "from ridge to reef." With the limited budget, limited resources, networking we can do something real, raising the population of endangered flora and fauna, increasing the quality of environment, build a Facility for research, education, conservation and ecotourism destination, create the alternative livelihood and most important is can make it all sustainable.

We now have to scale the program, accelerate the conservation work and replicate the initiative elsewhere in Indonesia. To achieve these objectives we commit to:

-Develop the three specific main programs Community Based Tourism (COMBAT), Community Fisheries Development (CONFIDENT) and Community Logging (COMLOG). The vision of these three programs is to build and promote equitable natural resource management and ensure the sustainable.

-For the Community based Tourism, we are on progress to develop 11 cooperation, 4 Community Dive Center, and 5 Village Hubs, 3 Turtle Conservation, and 4 Mangrove Conservation Center.

-For Community Logging ; 2 Cooperation already exist, 4 Cooperation on progress.

-For Community Fisheries; 3 Cooperation already exist and 4 cooperation on progress, 5 Village Hubs. We also already develop and launch the first flat hull boat and fisherman shipyard, which all made by the fisherman, lower cost and easy to build and we have target to develop in other 3 places again. We also develop the involving of renewable energy to support some remote village area. Already run, the supporting of Cold Storage in Raja Ampat with the electricity from Sun Power. And now under progress to develop in 2 other places again.

-We also develop the Primary Cooperation and now already exist the Primary Cooperation for COMBAT and COMLOG. This is to strengthen the local cooperation to access the capital, market networks and the hub for learning center. This what we call "To compete the capital conglomeration should develop the social conglomeration".

-We are also committed follow the international standard event this is the community based. There is a anecdote before that the community business could not pass the standardization and moreover the international certification. But we proof that we can. For the Logging we already pass and get the international standard of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), for Marine/fisheries the process on progress the discussion and develop the model with MSC (Marine Stewardship Council), and for Community Tourism follow the Asia Eco Tourism standards.

-We also build the PT. SOBI (Social Business Indonesia) to help market strengthening, standardization and also capital support.

-We also develop the inventory system, financing model that allow the public involvement and participation, marketing model, on the IT based model. Some of them on the Android Application, such as POHONKU (for Logging) and Angel Travelers (For Tourism).
