Vital Fisheries: Setting pathways for the implementation of the International Guidelines for Small-Scale Fisheries in Brazil
by Artisanal Fishing Web - TeiaPesca (Partnership)
The Artisanal Fishing Web TeiaPesca is a network of networks of small-scale fisheries stewards including fishers, researchers and extensionists to jointly help improve inter-network technical-political organization, communication and learning.

The artisanal fishing web was established during the process of implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication the SSF Guidelines, in which Brazil played a major role to its approval. Since then, TeiaPesca is committed to provide opportunities to internalize the contents and issues of the SSF Guidelines through initiatives towards its implementation, bringing together fisheries stakeholders to promoting awareness and building capacities.

A document entitled Vital Fisheries: Setting pathways for the implementation of the International Guidelines for Small-Scale Fisheries in Brazil was the main outcome of a 5-day event entitled National Seminar of Capacity Building for the Implementation of the SSF Guidelines, and includes a national strategy envisioned for each of the ten SSF Guidelines major themes. The Vital Fisheries report became a key policy instrument to help reforming the complex legal and institutional framework of artisanal fisheries. Small-scale fishers representatives and technical supporters within TeiaPesca is now committed to working for its implementation forward under sustainable development goals and concepts.
