En la pesca con red de cerco existen tres modalidades, la pesca sobre delfines, la pesca sobre brisas y la pesca sobre FAD.
En la pesca sobre delfines es fundamental evitar mortalidad a los delfines o heridas graves. Para esto los buques llevan observadores cientficos a bordo que verifican el cumplimiento de medidas orientadas a evitar esas mortalidades o heridas. Bilogos profesionales son capacitados para conocer de las medidas obligatorias para la proteccin de los delfines. Se realizan cursos todos los aos y se cuenta en la actualidad con 22 bilogos observadores que van a bordo de las naves de pesca de atn con red de cerco.

Increase scientific knowledge, develop research capacity and transfer marine technology, taking into account the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission Criteria and Guidelines on the Transfer of Marine Technology, in order to improve ocean health and to enhance the contribution of marine biodiversity to the development of developing countries, in particular small island developing States and least developed countries
