Capacity building programme towards marine litter and the opportunities of the circular economy for the plastic sector
by Exchange 4 Change Brasil and ABIPLAST - Brazilian Plastics Industry Association (Partnership)
We believe in the great benefits that plastics can offer as a raw material to practical products and great solutions to our daily lifes, but we cannot deny the fact that plastics have also become a major source of pollution when it becomes waste. This compromise plastic usage and offer a threat and risk to the plastic industry.

Therefore Exchange 4 Change Brasil together with ABIPLAST the Brazilian Plastic Industry Association commit to bring this topic for discussion among the industry through a capacity building programme allowing the sector to understand the challenges and benefits of being part of this debate.
The New Plastics Economy aims to set an initial direction and contribute to the evidence base by synthesizing information across many dispersed sources assessing the benefits and drawbacks of plastics packaging today. Circular Economy thinking makes the case for rethinking the current plastics economy promoting new sources of materials, new designs and actions to reduce plastic waste leakage to the ocean.

This voluntary commitment gets both organizations to work together to deliver a Circular Economy Training Programme which aims to educate all ABIPLAST members and key stakeholders of the value chain on the circular economy principles and the new plastics economy. The programme will demonstrate the value of actions already implemented by ABIPLAST, highlighting existing materials and involvement in global initiatives such as the Operation Clean Sweap and produce new educational material and training activities.

Deliverables:
- Two training workshops dedicated to the members and key stakeholders;
- A circular economy guide to educate the sector and materialize all the learnings from the workshops;
- Promote best pellets handling practices through the Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) Programme
- Increase plastic packaging recycling
- Highlight the importance of understanding the impact of marine litter.
