Climate Justice by Your Hands Project, supported by GEF SGP implemented by UNDP
by Food Security Project of Phang-nga Coastal Communities (Other relevant actor)
Project Objectives:
1. To increase mangrove forest and enhance community management and protection to their mangroves for healthier coastal and marine ecosystem
2. To develop a biogas model for climate change mitigation and waste management
3. To raise public awareness and increase women and youths participation on local actions against climate change and global warming
Main Activities:
1. Developing a biogas model based on community renewable energy management by installing biogas-tanks in the target community
2. Food waste management by systematically collecting food waste from i.e. households, schools, organic food & restaurants. Some of the food waste will be composted as fertiliser to be used in organic gardening and the most will be used as material in the biogas process.
3. Mangroves forest protection by co-management at all levels. The action plan is developed by multi-stakeholders from Pa Khlok Municipality, Phuket Marine and Coastal Management Provincial Committee, Plant Genetic Conservation Project Office under the Royal Initiative and Forest Protection Volunteer Project under the Royal Thai Army. The mangroves restoration activities are constantly implemented by multi-organisations, namely: local youths, schools, hotels, hospital, and other CSOs.
4. Training and knowledge sharing/exchange platforms are established for community members. The technical assistance is from Taksin University, Phatthalung Province.
5. The M&E process has been set up with GEF Small Grants Programme and relevant stakeholders.

December 2016
A community learning center for in-house biogas production, food waste management including organic fertilizer production

December 2016
Existing mangrove forest in 192 ha is well-protected and 32 ha of mangroves forest area are increased. The local marine species are rehabilitated and increased in numbers, namely: Phuket otters, seagrasses, horse mussel, fisheries grounds.

June 2016
A community learning center for community mangrove forest management, coastal and marine ecosystem conservation. The plants and seedling nursery is built and managed to distribute to networks.
