Return Trees for Mountain and Mangroves, Return Seagrasses for Dugongs Project, supported by GEF SGP implemented by UNDP
by Sea Concern Group (Civil society organization)
Project Objectives
1) To enhance the community management in environment and natural resources conservation by ridge and reef approach
2) To enhance community resilience and capacity development
3) To enhance knowledge management and youth empowerment

Main activities
1) Launched community capacity building and awareness raising through study tour and training platforms
2) Rehabilitated and monitored the marine ecosystem by setting a sea diving patrol of youth group, community boat patrolling from coastline to sea, replanting mangroves, for instance.
3) Planted seagrasses as being food and habitat for Dugong and other marine species as well as increasing biodiversity in that area
4) Produced enzyme ionic plasma made of shells of blue swimming crabs to reduce chemicals use in farming and recycle bio-wastes in community area before discharged to the sea
5) Protecting landslide and soil erosion by reforesting 160 ha at upstream forest
6) Protecting terrestrial forest ecosystem by building check dams and wild fire trace barrier

Progress reports

  • Integrated Coastal Management
  • Marine Spatial Planning
  • Ecosystem-based Adaptation
14.4
By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, in order to restore fish stocks in the shortest time feasible, at least to levels that can produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by their biological characteristics
Type of commitment
  • Compliance, monitoring and enforcement
  • Reduction and elimination fishing practices and gear that destroy/degrade marine habitat
  • Reduction of fisheries by-catch and product waste/losses
