A Massive Open Online Course: One Planet One Ocean: From Science to Solutions.
by Cluster of Excellence (Academic institution)
This Massive Open Online Course One Planet, One Ocean: From Science to Solutions is available free of charge to a global community of learners. It provides an integrated view of the ocean system and its interactions with humans, as well as presenting options for better and more sustainable management of the ocean. Experts from the natural sciences, law, economics and philosophy share insights on the holistic function of the ocean system. During the 6-week course duration, learners engage with experts and among themselves through lectures, a discussion forum, live Q&A sessions, and online assignments.

The course is included in the global education platform for sustainable development of the SDG Academy. It was broadcast in 2016 for the first time and attracted over 4000 registered participants, many of whom were practitioners in marine governance and management. A second broadcast will take place in June/July 2017.

As an educational resource for the SDG 14, this is an open source product that is available on the website www.oceanmooc.org. Further course development aims at delivering knowledge and engagement through the class through embedded learning and involvement of partners in coastal regions that may not have access to such information and integrated expertise.
