Increasing the ecological sustainability of farmed salmon production
by Monterey Bay Aquarium on behalf of all partners (Non-governmental organization (NGO))
Monterey Bay Aquariums Seafood Watch Program is partnering with the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.), Inc. and Salmones Multiexport S.A. to launch a potential initiative to combat the incidence of Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome(SRS). The initiative will involve developing a health management program in Chile which includes vaccination, genetic selection, and water quality monitoring once implemented. The collaboration would apply the principles of integrated health management and pilot the GAAs draft Biosecurity Area Management Standard, with the aim of reducing the use of antibiotics in controlling an otherwise intractable disease.

By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, in order to restore fish stocks in the shortest time feasible, at least to levels that can produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by their biological characteristics
