Seagrass and Mangrove Rehabilitation and the Use of Renewable Energy against Global Warming Project, supported by GEF SGP implemented by UNDP
by Sam Roy Yod Natural Conservation Group (Civil society organization)
Project Objectives
1) To raise awareness of communities, youths and tourism entrepreneurs in conserving environment and energy
2) To enhance and replicate rehabilitation of mangroves forest and seagrass for better ecosystem
3) To build the community learning center of renewable energy model and low carbon technology application for fishing boats

Main activities
1) Planted seagrasses and increased the seagrass meadow for healthier coastal ecosystem
2) Practiced and promoted sea grapes seaweed (Caulerpa lentillifera) cultivation in abandoned shrimp farms for locals' alternative job to increase an income and decrease the pressure of marine fisheries as well
3) Built a solar drier for processing dried seafood product to add more values of seafood for higher income, and manage renewable energy
4) Invented artificial seaweed as a habitat for marine species, a barrier to subside coastal erosion, a zoning of conservation area, and to reuse a waste from fishing gears
5) Developed community revolving fund for several purposes, namely: livelihood improvement, raising awareness activities, conservation practices, community center and network for environment and renewable energy management

Progress reports
14.1
By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution
Type of commitment
PLASTICS
  • Coastal clean-ups
  • Plastics recovery/recycling/reuse
14.2
By 2020, sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, including by strengthening their resilience, and take action for their restoration in order to achieve healthy and productive oceans
Type of commitment
  • Community or Locally Managed Marine Areas
  • Integrated Coastal Management
  • Marine Spatial Planning
  • Ecosystem-based Adaptation
14.5
By 2020, conserve at least 10 per cent of coastal and marine areas, consistent with national and international law and based on the best available scientific information
Type of commitment
  • Marine protected area with partial protection
  • Multiple use marine protected area
  • Locally or community managed marine areas
14.b
Provide access for small-scale artisanal fishers to marine resources and markets
Type of commitment
  • Access to coastal fishing grounds
  • Community empowerment for fisheries management
April 2017
The sustainable fisheries is increased approximately to 700 ton/year, as values to USD 1650/year.
April 2017
The community learning center and revolving fund for environment and renewable energy has established.
February 2017
By a solar drier for dried seafood product, 6,675 kg/month of carbon emission was mitigated. This intervention also helps saving LPG energy for 192 kg/day, and electricity usage for 1,830 unit/month
January 2017
200 km. coastline are under protection and 0.32 ha of seagrass meadow is well protected. There is carbon sequestration for 84 ton/year benefiting from seagrasses
