The Shark and Ray Challenge in the Canary Islands
by ElasmoCan (Non-governmental organization (NGO))
Effective conservation management strategies rely highly on the local scientific knowledge of species. Yet, such information is not available for sharks and rays in the Canary Islands and there is a lack of public awareness about the importance of science based management implementations in species conservation.

ElasmoCan aims for a better knowledge and sustainable use of the marine environment, with special focus on the sharks and rays. Therefore, we develop projects that provide scientific base knowledge, and make our outcome available to the government and the public.
