Beach Cleanup - San Pedro in Lima, Per
by L.O.O.P. (Life Out Of Plastic) (Private sector)
The objective of this event is, not only to free our sea from marine debris polluting it's shores, but more importantly, for the participants to realize that plastic pollution is a problem that needs to be taken seriously. That is achieved as they see where our consumption ends up, whether it is is a plastic straw or a plastic bag, it all ends up in our oceans and we need to realise what we are doing with our daily life choices. Following this, usually we start logistics around two weeks before the main event. First we started with the Hunter Douglas team and then the volunteers involved, so they can be prepared for the beach cleanup. Finalizing the beach cleanup and to make sure that the garbage we recovered does end up in a landfill we contact the Municipality of Lurin(the district where San Pedro beach is located) or Innova Ambiental(Private sector) so they can take care of the garbage. Finally we are able to create audiovisual material as well as infographics and other communication items so we can raise awareness in our communities. One thing that we feel it's important to mention is that all the plastic recover will be transform into curtains by the new product Hunter Douglas is making, closing the loop of consumption.
