It is a pilot project supported by GEF SGP implemented by UNDP for collecting and recycling frying oil used by citizens of Chiah in Beirut- Lebanon, a densely populated city which dump every year about 40 tons of frying oils within waste water network.
An awareness campaign organised by MERTERRE Organisation about the danger of frying oils and the benefits of recycling this type of waste on environment will encourage citizens to participate in the collection of the frying oil. This campaign will be implemented by a specialized team commissioned by the municipality of Chiah , which is partner in this project. This project will be expanded to reach nearby cities as Furn el Chebbak (60,000 inhabitants) and Hazmiyeh (55,000 inhabitants) so that the quantity of oil collected will reimburse the cost of collecting and cost of plant of recycling.
This project will protect the nature as it will prevent the pollution of the running water and sea water of Mediterranean.
