by Asociación de Pequeños Productores Agropecuarios Visión Integral (Santa Elena). (Civil society organization)
Mangrove ecosystem plays a fundamental role in marine habitat. Among other qualities, mangrove ecosystem has a high productivity, hosts a large numbers of aquatic, amphibian and terrestrial organisms and it is the habitat of juvenile stages for hundreds of fish, mollusks, crustaceans and birds species. Furthermore, the mangrove ecosystem also protects the coast against wind and wave erosion.
This is why this project seeks to achieve the reforestation of 36,86 mangroves hectares located in the Chongon Colonche Bio-corridor. The activities to accomplish this main goal will be: the diagnosis of the areas to be restored, the mangroves reforestation and finally monitoring and reseeding the areas which are hard to sow.
