Supporting effective ocean governance
by UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre (United Nations entity)
Achieving SDG14 will require the widespread uptake of effective ocean governance practices, particularly multi-sector area-based techniques such as marine spatial planning, marine protected areas and integrated coastal management. The UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre is actively engaged in projects advancing our collective understanding of how effective area-based planning and management can be achieved, both within national waters and in areas beyond national jurisdiction. We therefore commit to sharing with the international community the results of our work on effective area-based planning and management practices through user friendly and accessible communication channels.
