The goal of Aloha Aina Associates is to facilitate transformational tourism to set up a gradual process wherein hotels make small steps towards being more ecologically sustainable in every capacity. A clear mission statement and brochure will benefit our process of spreading clear, obtainable goals for the tourism industry. Aloha Aina Associates will partner with local NGOs and student associations to further develop the annual review of hotels in Hawaii to realize the UN Sustainable Development Goals. A Nature for All concept will expand targeted audiences to essentially everyone who comes in contact with tourism in Hawaii. Aloha Aina Associates aims to be educational, youth driven, intentionally oriented towards the future well being of Pacific islands, and focused on ecological entrepreneurship and will address three categories of hotel tourism: small boutique, medium chains, and large corporations. In January, the Aloha Aina Associates will visit the offices of hotels to present goals and point system. In order to receive points, the hotel must complete surveys, create a "ten simple steps to sustainability" plan, practice recycling, create positions within the hotel for a Green Manager and Green Team, install water refillers, source local foods or grow themselves, reducing use of resources to clean rooms by offering free breakfast or a t-shirt to those who do so, encourage education engagement within the workplace, and provide orientation for new employees on operating sustainably. We hope that Aloha Aina Associates will encourage hotels to understand and act on their opportunity to participate in environment conservation methods and especially oceanic conservation methods. We also hope that it will promote Oahu ahupua'a natural resource management from ocean to mountain. Aloha Aina Associates understands Moana (the Pacific) is the source of all life and the core of the program for sustainability will nurture visitors and kamaaina relationship with nature.
