West African subregional mangrove project

Ramsar Convention is encouraging more commitments from its constituency (Contracting Parties, IOPs, Ramsar Regional Initiatives) but also from different stakeholders to make the mangrove community initiative beneficial for communities.
Africa team of Ramsar Secretariat is collaborating with MAVA Foundation West Africa programme and its facilitating organizations (PRCM, Wetlands International, Abdjan Convention Secretariat, Birdlife International) to launch a West African subregional mangrove project. They will start with a harmonised mangrove data collection. Afterward, data will be compiled by the Africa Team of the Secretariat from various (sub) regional partners in order to facilitate needs analyse needs and priorities identification which could be integrated in any ongoing or future capacity building programme(s). Also, the availability of reliable data will facilitate fundraising for mangrove conservation especially in Africa.
