Milkfish Aquaculture Project (Kiribati)

The problem of depletion of marine resources has arisen as a result of rapid population growth and overfishing of fish stocks in Kiribati and the absence of effective management. Milkfish is viewed as an important species of fish in Kiribati. The project aims to assist Kiribati through technical cooperation by in applying expertise and experiences from Taiwanese Province of China's milkfish breeding industry to help the people of Kiribati supplement fish protein sources. Specific project work components will include:

1. Breed milkfish broodstock and raise milkfish fry;
2. Counsel on fishery resource management;
3. Enhance milkfish fry raising techniques;
4. Conduct surveys of basic information on the aquaculture sector in Kiribati.
