Assessing the Carbon Potential of Mangrove Forests in Nigeria
by Blue Carbon Project Nigeia (Private sector)
Blue Carbon Project Nigeria is a virgin organization poised with the aim of restoration of mangrove forests in the Niger Delta by research, community planning, training, and policy intervention.

The first aim of the group is to carry out the largest single-day mangrove survey of stems. This will be the first step in assessing the carbon potential of mangrove forests in Nigeria.

This will be implemented by involving educational institutions in the target regions and NGOs. This demonstration project will involve tree girth measurements of mangrove trees and species determination. Further analysis will involve using remote sensing to map out the AGB of the region.

Follow up will include reports which will form a basis of informing policy on restoration, conservation and further research on soil carbon.
