Participation in the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) 2018-2020
by European Business Chamber in Trinidad and Tobago (EUROCHAMTT) (Civil society organization)
The ICC is the Worlds largest volunteer effort to clean up the marine environment and is coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy office of Pollution Prevention and Monitoring of Virginia, U.S.A.
In Trinidad and Tobago, the ICC is coordinated by the Caribbean Network for Integrated Rural Development and a National Planning Committee of Trinidad and Tobago. The initiative is promoted by these organisations. Volunteer organisations sign up to take responsibility for an individual site and to recruit volunteers for the actual cleanup of the site. The overall coordinators distribute supplies obtained through sponsorship such as garbage and crocus bags, gloves, stakes to mark (plastic, glass, general waste) and they arrange training of site captains in the data collection.
