According to the 2016 report released by the European of Plastic, 39.9% of plastic products are general packaging materials. In South Korea, Hyundai Department Store, one of the major distribution companies has started the movement of drstically cutting down their wrapping and packaging. They have replaced the Rattan-based gift packaging with paper boxes and also applies paper wrappings instead of the traditionally used PP materials. In addition, biodegradable bags are provided for delivery as an alternative of paper packaging and also the synthetic ice package has been exchanged to water based ice packages. The result of reducing the 3.9 tons of plastic usage utilized for wrapping materials and ice packages account to an effect of planting 1,400 pine tress.

Hyundai HomeShopping replaced their delivery box with 'finger boxes' which is composed with paper and can be assembled by handss. By removing the plastic tape from the box, household wastes have been greatly reduced.

Sk Hynix, the worlds' third-largest semiconductor company, is planning to establish '2022 ECO Vision' with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emission by 40%, achieving 90% of waste recycling and utiliizing 100% of renewable energy compared to 2016(four years ago). Additionally, through Cook Stove project at Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the expectancy effect is to reduce 300,000 tons of greenhouse gas and recycle 95% of the waste caused by the production process .

Hyundai Greenfood is also one of the companies we highlighted. Instead of using icepacks filled with micro plastic based materials, they replaced it with eco-icepacks filled with water. The package itself has been changed from vinyl to paper. Additiaonally, by using eco-friendly boxed certifies by FSC, they are actively participating in sustainable forestry and calling upon an ethical trend in this field of business.
