The objectives include encouraging children to be physically and mentally involved in the fight against environmentally irresponsible practices, enriching the self-esteem of children, proffering solution and support in building a cleaner, habitable and sustainable environment Nigeria. Other objectives include building a sustainable environment through communal engagement scheme in activities such as voluntary beach cleanups, recycling of single-use plastics, aquatic conservation, advocacy and composting.
MEDIC implements these objectives managing a sustainable beach along the Elegushi area of Lagos State. Our communal engagement scheme brings volunteers from all walks of life together for voluntary participation. Monthly clean up activities at the beach and in other coastal communities are used as one of the follow-up mechanism.
Through grants from other non-profit organizations including ACT Foundation and 4Ocean, MEDIC has been able to spread awareness about proper waste management among coastal communities in over 35 schools in four local government areas in Lagos state. Through international collaboration with other non-profit organizations, MEDIC has also spread its tentacles in other communities and local government areas of Lagos state.
Objectives of aquatic conservation include location monitoring the successful incubation and release sea turtles across coastal communities. MEDIC has been able to build a local network of volunteers in hundreds of coastal communities to spread awareness about the need to protect sea turtles and forage areas.
