The objective of this commitment is to contribute for the development of marine mentality at Brazil. The implementation methodology consists mainly of guiding and conducting research related to marine sustainability; publish informational material on the sustainability of coastal and marine areas.
For example, we developed a website to display the results of a collaborative mapping of the effects of the oil spill that occurred in Brazil in 2019 (http://www.ivides.org/index/index.php/oil-pollution-participatory-map); another research product was the sustainability atlas for the coastal municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (http://www.ivides.org/atlas_en/).
We published a free e-book, called "Environmental management and sustainability in the coastal and marine areas: concepts and practices", available at http://livro.ivides.org. Description in english: http://www.ivides.org/livro/Apresentacao_Raquel_LIVRO_07_02_2020(EN).pdf.
The president at IVIDES.org, Dr. Raquel Deziderio Souto, is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Graduate Program in Geography at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Its object of research is the development of a Public Participatory Geographic Information System (PPGIS) to map environmental problems in the coastal zone of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), as a pilot area.
