Stakeholder engagement

The Ocean Conference and its preparatory meeting will be open to a broad range of stakeholders including non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, philanthropic organizations and other actors.

Stakeholders that fall under the following categories are eligible to register and participate in the Conference and the preparatory meeting:

  • organizations that are in consultative status with ECOSOC;
  • organizations that were accredited to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20) and to previous United Nations conferences on sustainable development of small island developing States, held in Barbados, Mauritius and Samoa;
  • organizations that have received special accreditation by Member States to participate in the Conference and the preparatory meeting. Please note that the deadline for submitting applications for special accreditation was 22 January 2017 and that applications are no longer accepted.

PRE-REGISTRATION FOR THE PREPARATORY MEETING (15-16 FEBRUARY 2017)

Pre-registration is required for eligible (please see above) representatives of non-governmental organizations and major groups identified in Agenda 21 to participate in the preparatory meeting to be held from 15-16 February 2017. Pre-registration is now closed.

Pre-registration is required for eligible (please see above) representatives of non-governmental organizations and major groups identified in Agenda 21 to participate in the Ocean Conference, to be held from 5-9 June 2017 in New York. Please note that pre-registration for the Ocean Conference will open in late March 2017.
